  • Antibiotic stewardship through CRP-guided antibiotic treatment for patients with Acute Exacerbation of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (AECOPD); Health and Medical Research Fund; [Co-Investigator] HK$1,496,430; 01/09/2022 – 31/08/2025;
    Aim: (1) To determine whether the addition of a serial CRP levels to usual care for AECOPD leads to shorter antibiotic duration, and (2) To determine whether the addition of a serial CRP levels to usual care for AECOPD is non-inferior to usual care alone, on COPD health status.

  • Understanding transmission risk of SARS-CoV-2 virus in A&E and patient rooms: Health and Medical Research Fund - Commissioned Research on the Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) 2020; [Co-Investigator] HK$2,091,796; 31/06/2020 – 31/05/2022;
    Aim: To quantify transmission risks from patients to health care workers (HCWs) in Hong Kong hospitals with a multi-route and multi-intervention modelling approach and provide recommendations on potentially suitable and most effective environment infection control methods.

  • Sepsis Trials In Critical Care (SepTIC): NIHR Health Technology Assessment 2018, NETSCC ID: 17/136/18; [Co-Investigator] £3,496,203; 01/01/2019 – 31/12/2022;
    Aim: To conduct a large, pragmatic, efficient randomised controlled trial to simultaneously investigate the clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of three interventions – rapid PCR-based microbiological diagnostics, conservative fluid therapy with an active fluid deresuscitation strategy, and intravenous immunoglobulin, using lymphopaenia as a biomarker to both identify patients at higher risk (prognostic enrichment) and who are more likely to respond to treatment (predictive enrichment).

  • Application of Medical ENgineering to emergency Department - System Analysis, Modelling, Simulation and Optimisation Network (AMEND-SAMSON): MRC Proximity to Discovery Scheme; [Principal Investigator] £20,000; 01/03/2017 – 30/6/2017;
    Aim: To improve the patient experience and pathway through the emergency medical unit.

  • Cost-effectiveness of deploying GPs in the Emergency Department: NIHR Health Services and Delivery Research 15/145/04; [Co-Investigator] £999,823; 01/01/2016 – 31/12/2018;
    Aim: To investigate the role of GPs in emergency departments in the UK.

  • Genetic Susceptibility of Hong Kong Ethnic Chinese to severe influenza and RSV infections: HMRFund 2013; [Co-Investigator] HK$999,823; 01/01/2013 – 31/12/2016;
    Aim: To investigate the genetic susceptibility of HK Chinese to influenza.
